"The Matlocks" come from the same school of rock as
their countrymen "The Hellacopters" and to some extent
"The Hives". Fans of "Turbengro", "Glucifer"
and "The Flaming Sideburns" will also appreciate the
no-nonsense rockin' approach the boys take. They walk the pop/rock
tightrope pretty closely, the guitars are pretty clean at times.
IF they went a big more fuzzed or crunchy they'd fall into the
Sleaze/Glam genre with Hanoi Rocks, but their tightness and
production keeps them more appealing to the younger kids I imagine.
They DO have a bad-ass attitude though that allows the tough
guys and gals to get on board.
There's
13 songs on the album, personally, they could have cut out a
few of the deeper cuts that were just faster pop-oriented songs
and put on another song like the more blues-based "Part
Of The Plan" or "C'mon, C'mon", but that's my
personal taste. Bottom line, they're a very solid band that
no-doubt has a kick-ass live show. They have some blistering
solos, hot piano and even some hammond organ that show these
guys KNOW rock n' roll and they do it very well.
