Australia has never been known for it's "Heavy Metal".
I can probably county on one hand the true Metal band from the
land Down Under. Pegasuz comes to mind of course, but then it
starts to thin out. That doesn't mean they aren't there however,
it means they don't get the exposure! Ilium is one of those
bands that really deserves proper attention and many with ex-Riot/Masterplan
vocalist Mike DeMio on the vocals.
The
nice thing about the band they are far away from the influences
of Europe so you get a little different feel to the music. Don't
get me wrong, it's Epic Power Metal, and it's produced by legend
Tommy Hansen, but there's just something slightly different
that makes it worth checking out.
The
compositions are very impressive, they don't overdo the double-bass,
and they still have some nice hooks. They have very smart and
interesting lyrics, and they don't worry about the basic verse-chorus-verse-chorus
song structure, but rather let the music flow. There's blistering
solos and some progressive song structures to keep you very
interested in the music. Overall, an great effort. Now, if they
can just get some attention in Europe, the stronghold of traditional
Metal, they'll be just fine!
