The FIRST thing you need to know about this release from Conquest
is that you have to listen all the way through. You can judge
this one by one, two or even three songs. Plain and simple,
Conquest is metal. You can call some Power Metal, some a bit
more Hardcore, some is Thrash. One might ask, it sounds like
a band without an identity. I don't thinkt that's the case,
the overall theme of the "End Of Days" is dark and
very "Metal".
Probably
the biggest mistake was putting "Feel My Pain" first
on the CD. To me it's a dated Pantera-Style song that is typical
of American Metal. After that the CD actually gets better! They
have some shorter faster tunes like "It's All Over"
and "Forever Free", then some epic Classic Metal like
"Killer Machine" and "Revelation (Soul Keeper).
They actually do both styles very well as their Priest influences
really stand out.
All
the players are very good, the drumming is extremely solid and
the guitars are always doing something interesting. The vocals
are more of a growl for the most part, but singer Derrick Brumley
does have some nice range at times. The songs all well written
as well. Bottom line they are a very good American Metal band
that seems ready to take a bigger stage! They seem to really
have come a long way in a short time, so who knows how far these
guys can take it.
