By
looking at photos of Antiproduct you might get the idea they're
a spastic hybrid of Industrial and Punk rock, or maybe something
like "Mindless Self Indulgeance". I was pleasantly
surprised to find them to be more of a hard-driving Power Pop
band with an amazing sense of melody and big hooks. Now, they
have moments of pure intensity like in "Arms Around The
World" and "I Will Not Go Quietly" but most of
the album is more strait up heavy Pop Rockers.
They
even have couple nice love songs on here that are a pleasant
surprise. Their cover of Beach Boys "Good Vibrations"
is how I always wanted B.B. so sound, with some balls and a
bit over the top. Antiproduct was able to pull off the harmonies
with amazing accuracy too. There is one song that really did
fit their image of insane cartoon characters, "Bungee Jumping
People Die". It's a deliciously twisted tune that is absolutly
impossible to categorize.
I
could sit and list comparisons, but I instantly think of UK
rockers "The Wildhearts" and even going back to Queen,
mostly because of their diversity and and amazing song-writing
abilities. The band seems to have no rules and simply relies
on writing good songs. They also have 2 girls in the band, Milena
and Clare who both have the looks and do amazing work in the
backing vocal department. Clare really has what appears to be
amazing stage presence and more attitude that Joan Jett and
Wendy O. Williams Combined. Milena seems to play every instrument
invented, she's also done work with Marky Ramone. And frontman
Alex? Well, he was in another extremely underrated band back
in the early 90's called Life, Sex & Death. He's a blistering
guitarist but is more focusing on the vocals and leading the
party in Antiproduct.
I
really hate to use this cliche', but this band will have something
for everyone. There's some sugary Pop, some heavy dark shit,
some love songs, and most of all fun up-beat rock songs. They
are exactly what is missing from the music scene, they are fucking
rockstars, larger that life putting on a show that you won't
soon forget.
