Oliver
Weers isn't exactly a household name, in fact it's hard to find
a lot of information on the Danish singer. He is apparently
well-respected enough to open for Whitesnake and score Tommy
Aldridge and Marco Mendoza in the band. The truth is that "Get
Ready" is better than the latest Whitesnake and is an amazing
piece of modern AOR. I use the term "modern" because
he does infuse some life into a genre typcially said to have
lived and died in the 80's.
Weer's
doesn't reinvent the wheel here, in fact some of the material
isn't even close to being original, but it is done very, very
well. The first cut "Calling Out To You" is about
as strait up AOR as you get, but it's power and the superb production
really make it stand out. He really shines on his ability to
write amazing hooks. "Even Giants Cry" is evidence
of this, verse is ok, but the chorus really grabs you. The same
can be said for "Hands High" and "Angel".
There's even a semi-ballad "Coming Home" that grabs
you pretty well.
Overall,
the music is a lot like Whitesnake, it's heavy enough for the
guys, but soft enough to make some panties wet. This has the
makings of a super-group... if only it was 87' again! Still,
Weers is going to turn a lot of heads for those who hear "Get
Ready", it's just a damn good recording.
