DC4's
"Explode" SHOULD be played on every rock station in
the country. They manage to blend the modern sound with a Classic
Rock sound that embraced big hooks and melodies. Shawn, Matt
and Jeff Duncan are brothers, and have played in bands such
as Armored Saint, Dio and Odin. All are respected players in
the Rock/Metal community, but they often are labeled as 80's
rockers, which is really unfair as DC4 is not an 80's style
band, it's just kick ass rock. Rowan Robertson rounds out the
lineup on guitar, and an amazing player in his own right.
So,
what exactly do these guys sound like? Well, consider that Armored
Saint bassist Joey Vera produced, and that Jeff Duncan was in
Saint, there is some similarity to their later material, but
the songs are more Pop sounding and the content is different.
Again, it's hard to call DC4 "Metal" either, even
though some of the guitars have the tones of the early 90's
act "Fight" with Rob Halford. Imagine now that with
some Beatles-style choruses and backing vocals and you are getting
close to the sound.
Some
of my highlights were "Rock N' Roll Disease", "Cabin
Fever", "Candy Caine" and "Experiement",
but the entire CD is solid. Vera did an amazing job producing
too, it just sounds better the louder you crank it up. Overall,
fans of Maiden OR Nickelback will like these guys, the material
is very universal for all rockers.
