Stevens has carved himself out a nice legacy with "Circle
II Circle" from what I originally thought was more of a
side-project. Now the former Savatage singer offers his latest
effort "Delusions Of Grandeur". Stevens has said this
is a "more edgy, rougher" version of the band. In
my opinion it sounds like it simply hasn't had a final mix or
a more "demo" sound. I'm not really complaining actually,
it does sound different from the onslaught of the other Prog
and Power Metal releases. The album is nicely diverse from some
all-out fast Metal to some more grooving tunes like "So
Many Reason", the first release. Overall this is a strong
effort even if I'm not personally blown away by it. Most impressive
to me were actually some of the blistering solos by Andy Lee
and Evan Christopher, these guys are certainly underrated, they
are more than just capable and show a wide diversity on this
album. Stevens commanding voice and strong lyrics make this
another solid effort for Circle II Circle.
