SLOUGH FEG - "Ape Uprising" - 2009 - Cruz Del Sur Music

I have to admit, I love this band, they sound like nobody else, mostly due to Michael Scalzi's unique vocal style. They have a NWOBHM feel to them, but there's more to it than that. They almost seem to have a tongue-in-cheek attitude at times that makes the music even more enjoyable. I'm not saying the don't take themselves seriously, in fact, it's just the opposite. They are very serious about their music, the musicianship is superb, just listen to the 10 minute title track and you'll understand that. They don't dress or look like your typical Metal guys, you wouldn't recognize them on the streets, they're more about the music that the look.

Back to their slightly twisted sense of humor, when you see songs titles like "The Hunchback Of Notre DOOM", you have to chuckle a bit. I'm a Metalhead so i think "cooool, why didn't I think of that!". "Shakedown At The Six" is an ass-kicker in the vein of "Streetjammer" off their 2007 release "Hardworlder". "White Cousin" is a majestic and folksy balls out jam that makes you turn it up louder, and "Nasty Hero" is more of a strait up rocker that has some delicious licks and is full of Scalzi's grungy yet melodic vocals.

The bottom line is that this Slough Feg is one of the more enjoyable bands out there, they aren't pretty, they aren't overproduced, they aren't slick, radio-friendly or even that polished. These are all the reasons I fuckin' love these guys!
