| XTRO - 1983 - Director: Harry Bromley Davenport It's a very
strange movie about alien abduction, so strange it keeps you interested...
but I'm not sure about what. Sound confusing? Well, this
movie will do that to you. There's some pretty graphic stuff in
this one that will certainly disturb you. This one was filmed
in London with mostly British actors, and the loud music and camera-work
reminds one of Dario Argento's work. Harry Bromley-Davenport was
the director and writer, he also did the sequels. The story is
based around a family who's father was abducted 3 years early by aliens
only to return 5 years later to bring his son back with him to wherever
and whomever abducted him. But somebody tell me, what do midgets
in clown suits have to do with aliens?!? It get's weirder by the
minute as the young lad's toys start coming to life and killing, well
just about everyone. Whatever you do, don't watch this one under
the influence of anything from drugs to cough syrup. |
| XTRO 2 - 1990 - Director: Harry Bromley Davenport This one
has nothing to do with Part One, thank God, and is the strongest of
the first three films. There's no doubt this is an "Alien"
rip-off, from the creature bursting from a soldier's chest to the slimy
skin and sharp teeth. Jan-Michael Vincent is Dr. Ron Shepard,
who's brought in to a government facility after an experiment went bad.
They are messing around with sending people to a parallel universe and
they bring back the creature with them. This story has been done
a million times, and I've seen and probably will continue to see everyone
of them. This one is done pretty well, sure, they don't have an
"Aliens" budget, but whatever they had, they make good use
of. It's harmless fun with some generally tense moments.
For the record, these people are the worst shots I've ever seen.
Unfortunately, this one seems harder to find than the others because
it is a much better product. |
| XTRO: WATCH THE SKIES (XTRO 3) - 1995 - Director: Harry Bromley Davenport Low Budget
Sci-fi movie that crosses over into horror with the amount of blood
and gore. This movie manages to then stink under 2 genres.
A group of marines is sent to a remote island to disfuse bombs, but
instead are terrorized by an alien that is a rip-off of Predator and
Close Encounters. There was some potential here, but the story
is too cluttered, it makes the X-Files seem simple. Of course
the story is secondary as it's more about the action, which most of
the time is poorly done. Some of the creature effects are laughable,
and he makes noises like a wild cat. It's almost like they had
leftover footage and some extra time so they threw this movie together.
It's watchable, but barely. |
